7:00 PM - 8:30 PM to present “Ten Years of Restoration in Prospect Heights”.

 

The Prospect Heights Natural Resources Commission turned 10 in February. A lot has happened over those 10 years that has changed the face of Prospect Heights through restoration and habitat recreation. This program will take a look back at those changes at all the sites.

 

The Prospect Heights Library's summer reading program for 2024 is titled, "Read, Renew, Repeat and encourages reading as a restorative method of self-improvement and self-preservation. Designed for all ages, the summer reading program will feature the idea of conservation.

It's a perfect context for the Commission to review their 10 years of conservation, ecological restorations, and outreach in Prospect Heights. Commissioners will examine the starting conditions of the natural areas they manage, the progress year by year and where we are today. Get a firsthand look at the challenges, how we did it and all of the wonderful volunteers that work together year-round to make it happen. This program is free of charge but you must register.

 

In 2014, the NRC received its first ComEd/Openlands grant that partially fueled the startup of the restoration of the severely degraded treasure. Since then, the project has progressed in leaps and bounds improving the habitat for both the creatures that call it home and the residents who surround and visit it.

The ComEd Seeded Prairie was a part of the first ComEd Green Regions grant in 2014. Ten years later it is a premium pollinator habitat.

The Nature Preserve was the second ComEd Green Regions received by the Commission to convert two acres into an interactive nature park for children.

Pollinator Park was the third ComEd Green Regions received by the Commission to create pollinator habitat and invite public interaction.
