Join PHNRC Commissioners Jill Moskal, John Kamysz ,Dana Sievertson, Agnes Wojnarski, and Edward Madden as they take a look back at the history, the drama, the collapse and restoration of the Prospect Heights Slough.
Do you remember what the Slough looked like 4 years ago? Do you know anything about its tortured history? Do you wonder what is going on there? Do you know what the plans are for restoration? If not then "Slough 101: The History and the Restoration is for you.
The Prospect Heights Slough is one of the few remaining naturally occurring wetlands in the Chicagoland region. Noted on the original land surveys from the 1800's, the Slough has been a focal point for the community of Prospect Heights and a source of inspiration, frustration, confrontation, isolation, exhilaration and joy. Throughout it all, it has been habitat to thousands of insects, birds, fish, macro-invertebrates, mammals and amphibians.

In 2014, the Natural Resources Commission received its first ComEd/Openlands grant that partially fueled the startup of the restoration of the severely degraded treasure. Since then, the project has progressed in leaps and bounds improving the habitat for both the creatures that call it home and the residents who surround and visit it.
The Commissioners will review the history, the starting conditions, the master plan, the implementation and the progress. Please join us for this most informative and entertaining of evenings.
